Math Lab

Mission Parish students go to Math Lab in their computer lab once a week for forty-five minute sessions. Students in grades Pre-K, kindergarten, first and second learn and practice math skills with online software called SYMPHONY. In this program students are engaged in math activities aligned with California and National standards. Based on student performance, SYMPHONY determines at which level each student should be instructed and challenged. The students meet these challenges in the form of math games and become very involved. The program assesses performance and mastery and moves students through the state standards in math. Review is built into this program throughout.

Students in grades third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth learn and practice math skills using a program called ANY WHERE LEARNING. A+ consists of an extensive core math curriculum based on state and national standards. Through A+, students are assessed on math skills at their grade level. Curriculum suggestions are made based on individual mastery. Standards that are not yet mastered are presented individually with a study guide, practice test, and a mastery test. As mastery tests are mastered with 80% accuracy or better, the student is directed to move on to study, practice and test on the next level.

Each student progresses at their own individual speed with individual assistance and instruction from the teachers when needed. Individualized, self-paced learning helps maximize all students’ progress. It is our goal to provide continuous progress for each child. Only when each student is making continuous progress can each one be academically successful.
